Two years of supervisory experience. * DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:Board Eligible of Board Certified in a primary care specialty (FP, EM, IM, Pediatrics or OB/Gynecology). Correctional healthcare experience preferred. Experience in managed care preferred. Continuing Education requirements must be met as required for licensing and board certification maintenanceGENERAL RESPONSIBILITES: The Facility Medical Director serves as the principle "Responsible Heath Authority (RHA), for all *Clinical *related functions, as delineated within the current NCCHC Standards Manual, (reference Standard P-A-02). Additionally, the Medical Director is responsible for the delivery of clinical Services within the institution. The Facility Medical Director provides oversight for the Medical Staff. DUTIES: * Supervises other physicians and clinical associates (PA/NP). * Conducts Peer Review in accordance with guidelines. * Performs routine medical exams on inmates referred by nursing/professional staff under established guidelines, GDC manuals, and Clinical Updates. * Provides medical treatment and orders studies, tests, and ancillary services that are consistent with local community standards and all applicable SOP's and Clinical updates. * Documents in SOAP format and GDC/GCHC forms all services provided in inmate's medical records. * Reviews/re-evaluates as appropriate those cases requiring ongoing medical/pharmaceutical attention. * Ensures that all NCCHC's Standards for Health Services in Prisons and ACA standards are met. * Assists the Statewide Medical Director and Regional Medical Director in implementing policies and developing procedures in accordance with quality medical and nursing care as defined in the NCCHC's Standard for Health Services in Prisons and all applicable GDC/GCHC/MCG policy. * Assists the HSA and DON to implement and maintain the CQI program as defined by GDC/GCHC/MCG policy. * Assists the HSA and DON to establish and maintain a monthly multi-disciplinary CQI committee. * Establishes and maintains a Chronic Care Program to assure compliance with GDC/GCHC/MCG policy. Adheres to the established policies and procedures of GCHC and the GDC. Follows all applicable clinical updates. * Supervises the clinical activities in the Medical Unit with assistance from the HSA and DON to provide complete medical services at the facility to inmates/residents at all times and to staff in emergencies. * Participates as required as a member of Infection Control, CQI, P & T and other committees as required. * Performs Mortality Reviews per SOP's. Reviews all deaths and inmate grievances. * Works with HSA and DON to identify problems and to recommend solutions to improve patient outcomes. * Participates without lapses in the call schedules developed by HSA's, RM's, and Statewide authorities. * Consults with medical specialists for advice and expertise in their respective areas. * Assists the HSA to monitor pharmacy services including formulary compliance, prescribing patterns, and dispensary of medications. * Performs other services and duties as assigned. * Maintain professional dress, attitude and behavior always * Does not fraternize with inmates beyond professional contact. * Adheres to all security regulations. * Responds appropriately to supervisors, co-workers, and security personnel. * Assist in training new clinical associates and staff physicians. Counsels clinical personnel in relation to clinical decisions and assist personnel in professional growth and development.Attend all required meetings, in-services, and training activities. Follows chain of command for resolution of problems Works as scheduled and follows the Augusta University Policy for leave. Requests training to meet identified needs through in-service attendance and other formal and informal means. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Must be physically able to render care to the offender population. May require travel and must be able to carry 25 lbs.
