Academic rank will be awarded at the level commensurate with experience. This position will be part of the department's Senior Leadership Group and will report directly to the Department Chair. The successful individual will be expected to collaborate and work closely with the UNC/NC State Joint Department of Biomedical Engineering, other UNC School of Medicine departments (e.g. Allied Health Sciences, Orthopedics, Medicine, Neurology, and Neurosurgery), units within the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health, the Sheps Center for Health Services Research, RTI International, and other divisions and centers at UNC on research projects. World class research support, from the University's Office of the Vice Chancellor of Research, the School of Medicine's Office of Research, the North Carolina Translational and Clinical Sciences Institute, the UNC Health Care System's Office of Practice Quality and Innovation and Population Health Services, and other departments, institutes and centers, create significant opportunities for establishing new research programs and extending the breadth and impact of existing programs. This position will also serve as Vice Chair for Research, a leadership opportunity to develop innovative and rigorous research in the area of population health for people with disabilities, collaborate with departmental researchers in our Program on Integrative Medicine, facilitate the research of faculty and residents, and contribute to the growing translational research agenda at a top academic health care system. The successful candidate will lead all research projects and ensure success of the research teams; help develop and implement the strategic research plan; develop and submit funding proposals to appropriate funding agencies to support research training and infrastructure, and research projects; mentor faculty, residents, fellows, and students; publish research results in academically rigorous journals; participate in philanthropic development activities related to research; communicate research results on a regular basis with internal/external groups; and launch strategic research partnerships. The position will assist in the recruitment of faculty, staff, and educators whose background will further contribute to the development of the department's research portfolio. Significant start-up funding is available to assist in establishing a research agenda focusing on population health/health disparities and disability.The position requires at least 3 years of research and leadership experience in an academic institution or medical center and a proven track record of receiving grant funding.
