The Institute of Molecular and Clinical Ophthalmology Basel (IOB) is seeking a highly motivated Research Associate to join the Single-Cell Genomics Platform.

Single-cell genomics is revolutionizing our understanding of biology, from redefining our understanding of diverse cell types, to translating this knowledge to better understand disease states and their implications for therapeutics. The Research Associate will be part of the technology platform for single-cell genomics supporting the research groups of IOB.

Your position
  • Isolate/prepare single cells from various tissues and cultures and perform related NGS library preparation (10X Genomics System);
  • Test and set up Spatial Transcriptomics methods;
  • Operate various instruments, such as FACS (FACSAria Fusion), liquid handling robot (Tecan Fluent) and nanodispenser (I-DOT).
  • Implement new plate-based as well as emulsion-based protocols for specialized NGS applications in collaboration with research groups or other members of the Facility;
  • Ensure the quality of existing NGS protocols;
  • Prepare sequencing libraries for users of the Facility and perform the sequencing on Illumina instruments.


Your profile
  • PhD degree in molecular biology, biomedical science, biotechnology or a related field;
  • Minimum of 5 years research experience in Genomics. Previous experience in the single-cell field is mandatory;
  • Previous experience in analysing single-cell sequencing data (10x Genomics or SMART-seq) using R and/or Python is required;
  • Knowledge of liquid handling robotic platforms is an advantage but training will be provided;
  • Enthusiasm for establishing, troubleshooting and optimizing new protocols and techniques;
  • Independence in the planning, execution, analysis of standard molecular biology experiments;
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented;
  • Good written and verbal communications skills;
  • Fluency in English is a requirement, fluency in German is an advantage.
