The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of the University of Basel invites applications for a professorship in gender studies, with a focus on digitalization, starting August 1, 2022 or by appointment.

Your position

We are looking for a scholar with a comprehensive teaching portfolio in gender studies. We expect a research perspective grounded in gender theory and focusing on digital transformations in contemporary culture and society. Research activities based on fieldwork or other empirical approaches are preferred. Situated within the Department of Social Sciences, the professorship provides teaching within the gender studies BA and MA curricula, together with an interdisciplinary professorship in gender studies and cultural anthropology. The professorship also contributes to the interdisciplinary integration of gender studies in the department and faculty as well as to the existing doctoral programs.

Your profile

Candidates should demonstrate an outstanding record of publications with an international impact as well as substantive research experience beyond their doctoral studies. Additionally, a commitment to teaching, supervision of doctoral students, acquisition of external funding as well as active participation in the context of academic self-government are expected. Excellent proficiency in English is required; proficiency in German or, alternatively, a commitment to learn German within two years of the appointment is expected.
