RESPONSIBILITIES:

The incumbent will promote and monitor the excellence of teaching and learning, as one of the strategic drivers of the university, by effectively building and maintaining stakeholder relationships and efficiently managing the communication process. Continual involvement in curriculum development and the promotion of the development of assessment best practice will necessitate that the incumbent stays abreast with development in education and subject specific areas through continuous national and international research. The role will also be involved in the empowerment of academic staff through training interventions and will render support to academic staff and colleagues by promoting a culture of continuous change, improvement and innovation.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  • Relevant Master's degree;
  • A teaching qualification;
  • 5 years higher education or training related experience
  • 3 years' experience in academic development of staff;
  • Expertise in blended and on-line learning
  • Experience at a tertiary institution
  • Experience in using the affordances of technology to promote academic staff development, student success, institutional research, the scholarship of teaching and learning, etc.
  • Proven experience in the development and application of innovative teaching and learning strategies;
  • Experience in the scholarship of teaching and learning


REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):
  • Leadership, vision and general management capabilities;
  • Experience in education practice and education technology;
  • Academic experience;
  • Insight into the functioning and structures of a faculty;
  • Experience of education consultancy in higher education and project management;
  • Language proficiency and negotiation skills;
  • Experience of coordinating and facilitating training intervention and rendering support to academic staff;
  • Expertise in identifying, analysing , planning and supporting lecturers with regard to possibilities of flexi-learning environments;
  • Up-to-date knowledge of current trends and future scenarios for higher education with consideration given to important innovations, including the potential of technology changes for teaching, learning and assessment;
  • Thorough insight into educational theories, educational processes in tertiary education.


ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCES:
  • A first degree in LAW or Health Sciences
  • Experience in the scholarship of teaching and learning
  • Experience in working with a Learning Management System)


The annual remuneration package will be commensurate with the incumbent's level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines. UP subscribes to the BESTMED and UMVUZO medical aid schemes and contributes 50% of the applicable monthly premium.
