The role

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a statistician experienced in Bayesian analyses with an interest in meta-analysis. The successful candidate will join the multidisciplinary evidence synthesis team at Bristol Medical School. Line managed by Prof Julian Higgins, you will be part of Bristol Appraisal and Review of Research group in the Department of Population Health Science and will undertake complex statistical syntheses with a variety of research groups in the Department.

What will you be doing?

You will work on evidence syntheses of various forms, with a particular emphasis on complex Bayesian syntheses likely including network meta-analysis, prevalence estimation, individual participant data meta-analysis and component-based syntheses of the effects of complex interventions. Analyses may address questions about the effects of health interventions, the accuracy of diagnostic or screening tests, prognosis, burden of disease, methodology or other topics.

Work will include taking a central role in an evidence synthesis of studies of interventions to prevent obesity in children. In addition there will be a requirement to do a small amount of work on primary data analyses, as well as opportunities to work on methodological research projects in collaboration with internationally renowned colleagues in the Department.

You should apply if
  • You have a strong background in biostatistics
  • You hold a relevant PhD
  • You have particular familiarity with Bayesian analyses (e.g. using OpenBUGS, WinBUGS or JAGS)
  • You have knowledge of meta-analysis
