The Institute of Molecular and Clinical Ophthalmology Basel (IOB) is seeking a highly motivated Research Associate in Image Analysis and Machine Learning to perform data analysis within IOB.
IOB is a research institute associated with the University of Basel which combines basic and clinical research. Its mission is to drive innovations in understanding vision and its diseases and develop new therapies for vision loss. Your position
- Extract structural, functional, or genetic information from biological imagery including volumetric fluorescence microscopy, functional calcium or voltage imaging of neurons, and imagery generated by next-generation sequencing technologies such as spatial transcriptomics;
- Program, train, and employ machine/deep learning models to solve biological problems commonly requiring tasks such as class inference, generative tasks, and optimal experiment design strategies;
- Develop pipelines to automate commonly used workflows;
- Communicate clearly with biologists and computational staff to identify objectives and communicate results. Convey image analysis concepts to PhD students;
- Collaborate closely with members of IOB Groups and Platforms.
Your profile
- A PhD including at least 4 years of experience in advance analytics of imaging data;
- Biological knowledge. Experience working with biological data is strongly preferred;
- Fluency in Python, Unix/Linux, and machine learning libraries with PyTorch preferred;
- Experience scaling applications with cloud computing platforms and workflow management tools;
- Image analysis in the context of next-generation sequencing is a plus;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
