The Tissue Engineering Group at the Department of Biomedicine of the University Hospital Basel & University of Basel in Switzerland is currently seeking for a highly motivated PhD candidate to work on the development of biomimetic human bone marrow stem cell niches to model fundamental and clinical aspects of healthy and malignant hematopoiesis.
Your position
In the context of a National Centre of Competence in Research (NCCRs) program funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation, the PhD candidate is expected to be responsible for a challenging project at the interface between Hematopoietic Stem Cell research and Tissue Engineering. The highly interdisciplinary study aims at investigating the regulatory function of vascular components in hematopoietic stem cell niches, exploiting engineered human organotypic models. The project will combine cutting-edge components, such as endothelial cells derived from induced Pluripotent Stem Cells (collaboration with Prof. B. Treutlein at the ETHZ, D-BSSE), perfusion bioreactors for 3D culture and single-cell analytical techniques.

Your profile
- A Master degree in Biomedical/Life Sciences or equivalent
- Experience in cellular/molecular biology and cell culture techniques (mandatory)
- Familiarity with routine cellular/molecular biology techniques (DNA/RNA/Protein extraction, Q-PCR, flow cytometry, microscopy/imaging) (desirable)
- Experience in stem cell research and/or tissue engineering (as a plus).
- Excellent communication, writing and presentation skills
- Outstanding motivation and capacity to work in interdisciplinary teams
