We are seeking an individual to work as a Bioinformatics Scientist at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD

This is a long-term contract position which offers:

TASKS/SERVICES. The contractor shall:
  • Perform bioinformatic analysis on SNP array data using Genome Studio and other tools as appropriate
  • Perform bioinformatic analysis on genome, exome and RNASeq data using GATK, other industry standard tools and/or home-grown tools (after appropriate training)
  • Work with other bioinformatics staff and contractors to manage file system workspace, including downloading and uploading genomic files, archiving files and helping users to retrieve files.
  • Be available to consult with other staff and contractors to help set up and use bioinformatics tools
  • Act as a technical consultant during genome analysis meetings
  • Work with other staff and contractors to share genomics files as part of scientific collaborations
  • Utilize Python, BASH and other scripting to support bioinformatics work of the program
  • Support organization and preparation of bioinformatics data for scientific publication
  • Work with other staff and contractors to develop bioinformatics educational resources for students, fellows, staff and other learners.
  • Provide support and analysis of bioinformatics data required by basic scientist research

REQUIREMENTS. The contractor must have:
  • Bachelor's degree in bioinformatics or applicable field.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of related experience.
  • Basic knowledge of computer science, systems analysis and systems programming.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, PowerPoint).
  • Strong communications skills, both oral and written.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent communications and interpersonal skills
  • Strong Python scripting skills
  • At least one year's experience using the GATK best practices pipeline for genome assembly, variant calling and annotation.
  • Familiarity with RNASeq analysis
