Are you an international development academic with a proven track record of working in the development industry?

Have you experience of project management while approaching development from a critical, reflective academic angle?

Are you passionate about delivering an exceptional student experience in development studies (broadly conceived) in a research-intensive Russell Group University?

Are you able to use this array of expertise to support and advance our existing strengths in the School of Politics and International Studies?

The School of Politics and International Studies (POLIS) at the University of Leeds is looking for a lecturer in International Development, aligned with the School's and University's strategic focus on sustainable development. While the precise area of academic expertise is open - climate, health, energy, water, gender, education, etc.- the School is looking for someone with both a track record in teaching and research and experience in project/programme management in development. We would also welcome applications showing clear ability to maintain and create partnerships with institutions, academics and practitioners in the global south, in line with both the School and University academic strategies.

The School covers excellent research and teaching across the sub-fields of politics, international relations and international/global development, with an overarching focus on the politics of global challenges. In International Development, we are keen to advance interdisciplinary approaches to the study and practice of global challenges both within the School and across the Faculty and University. The successful candidate will be expected to build a strong portfolio of teaching, research and practice, help advance the School's undergraduate and graduate curriculum in development, including those with a practical focus, advance development-themed research projects, and equip students with relevant knowledge and expertise to enter the development world.

The University of Leeds is a multi-cultural environment. We are truly committed to the values of equality, diversity and inclusion. We welcome applications from all sections of society, but particularly encourage candidates with characteristics that are currently underrepresented in the University of Leeds research and teaching staff including people from Black, Asian and ethnic minority backgrounds; people living with disabilities; LGBTQ+ people; and women. The successful applicant will be expected to work within University values and policies which promote dignity, diversity and inclusiveness.
