The Position

This role leads the group responsible for developing the AI and ML platform capabilities for Wells Fargo's Information & Cyber Security (ICS) group. This group is also responsible for teaching and evangelizing AI and ML techniques across ICS.

This group partners closely with the Machine Learning/Artificial Intelligence teams in other areas of the company, Data Science teams and Model Risk Governance groups to develop and drive the engineering roadmap for scaling efficiently and safely deploying security-focused AI based solutions across the enterprise. This group will also partner closely across risk and other analytics groups to develop reusable patterns for explainability.

  • Develop and execute a multiyear technology strategy supporting full range of data and AI investments
  • Run a world class Engineering team, singularly focused on customer success through conceptualization and build out of cutting-edge solutions that help mitigate risk and improve business outcomes through data-driven decisions
  • Engage effectively & leverage services provided by the Enterprise Chief Technology Office, Technology Infrastructure, and the model risk governance teams to ensure a cohesive strategy across the bank.
  • Provide senior technology perspective on industry trends, competitive landscape and market/regulatory changes leveraging industry contacts, vendors, and strategic technology partner relationships.
  • Demonstrate security risk mitigation by collaborating closely with other teams within ICS to build AI and ML capabilities into other security processes where appropriate
  • Establish and maintain a profile as a senior technology leader both inside and outside the firm.
  • Develop and implement a Data Science-focused training program to build up AI and ML-related skills within the broader ICS organization.
  • Serves as a role model demonstrating strong commitment to diversity & inclusion and Wells Fargo's culture and core values.
  • Develop effective communication methodologies and processes to provide "explainability" for models to non-technical users, including other lines of defense.

Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years of software engineering experience
  • 8+ years of experience with strategic planning in technology
  • 8+ years of experience with managing software development projects through complete release cycles
  • 8+ years of leadership and people management experience in a large-scale technology environment

Desired Qualifications

  • A Masters degree or higher in computer science or engineering
  • 8+ years of experience with Agile practices
  • 5+ years of experience with systems architecture and design
  • 5+ years of experience with modern software engineering technologies and tool sets
  • 3+ years of managing a 100+ FTE engineering organization

Other Desired Qualifications
  • 5+ years' experience in developing ML solutions, preferably in or around the cybersecurity domain
  • Strong track record of building resilient and efficient model development and deployment platforms
  • Hands on understanding of different ML techniques and approaches and traditional statistical techniques to developing models
  • Expertise in designing and deploying robust data platforms to meet enterprise use cases. Includes knowledge of Hadoop, Hive, SQL, Python, Java and Pig.
  • 5+ years of executive leadership experience managing a complex technology organization of large scale including senior managers, managers, individual contributors and vendor resources across multiple global locations.
  • Demonstrated prior experiences in effective engagement with operating & management committee executives and external stakeholders.
  • Strong relevant prior experiences in effective management of technology financials and risk.
  • Ability to effectively drive and lead change in an organization with Wells Fargo's size, scale and complexity.
  • Demonstrated experience in building, leading, developing and retaining a high performing team of leaders, strong technical experts and high performing professionals in a cultural environment that achieves results through team member engagement and satisfaction.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a large portfolio of technology efforts across several major lines of business and effectively partner/influence at the senior executive level.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of the financial, operational, technical and regulatory drivers impacting a complex and dynamic global technology environment.
  • Proven experience as a highly effective leader with credibility from demonstrating strong business and technology acumen.
