We are seeking an individual to work as a Research Scientist (Genetics & Immunology) at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD.

TASKS/SERVICES. The contractor shall:
(1) Conduct research to advance goals of the Sickle Cell Branch by providing support to the sub-group involved in the study of pathophysiology of acute pain in sickle cell disease (SCD) in humans and humanized animal models (mouse and pigs) of SCD.
(2) Perform a variety of specialized laboratory techniques in mouse and porcine studies, flow cytometry, tissue culture, and molecular biology, and in support of the scientific research program of the Laboratory of Sickle Cell Genetics and Pathophysiology in the Sickle Cell Branch
(3) Maintain detailed records of laboratory experiments and perform statistical analysis of data, prepare tables, charts, graphs, summaries, and other materials for inclusion in publications.
(4) Provide direct responsibility for the sickle mice and pig studies and initiate independent research on genetic modifiers of fetal hemoglobin.
(5) Prepare summaries of experiments and contribute to the evaluation and discussion of results in weekly lab and branch meetings.
(6) Provide training, troubleshooting, technical expertise, and guidance to students, fellows, and other staff members in the use of equipment/laboratory methods, procedures, and techniques.
(7) Contribute as an author and/or co-author in the writing and preparation of scientific papers for publication in recognized journals.
(8) Maintain supplies needed for research experiments

REQUIREMENTS. The contractor must have:
(1) Ph.D. degree in a scientific field. Three (3) years of specialized experience plus a Master's degree is equivalent to a Ph.D.
(2) Minimum of three (3) years of experience in clinical research, molecular biology, and related fields.
(3) Strong background in genetics/genomics, immunology, or molecular biology as demonstrated by first-author publications in peer reviewed journals.
(4) Excellent analytical and writing skills to prepare a variety of responses, meeting materials, technical and administrative correspondence and reports.
(5) Time management and organizational skills to work efficiently and independently or as part of a team.
