The role

As the role holder you will be responsible for the qualitative research component of an NIHR funded programme of work to develop evidence-based optimal testing strategies for monitoring long term conditions in primary care. This mixed methods research will use evidence reviews and mathematical modelling to determine optimal testing strategies. An implementation intervention aimed at clinicians and patients will be developed to support uptake of these new testing strategies, which can then be evaluated. The programme of work is hosted jointly by the NIHR Applied Research Collaboration West (ARC West) and the Centre for Academic Primary Care (CAPC) The successful applicant will be based at ARC West.

What will you be doing?

In the early stages of the programme the as the role holder you will contribute to a process evaluation exploring the methods used to determine the optimal testing strategies. This work will involve non-participant observation and stakeholder interviews. Following from this, you will utilise the 'Person Based Approach' to develop an intervention to support the implementation of the new testing strategies. This will involve interviewing patients, GPs and nurses about their views on current testing and the proposed changes to testing strategies and conducting focus groups and think-aloud interviews to develop intervention materials such as leaflets or online guides to support implementation.

You should apply if

As the postholder you should have a strong background in qualitative methods applied to health services / public health research, have a higher degree in social sciences or a related discipline and experience of publishing findings in international peer-reviewed journals. You have excellent communication and interpersonal skill, experience of working within a multidisciplinary team and an awareness of theoretical approaches to behaviour change and/or implementation of health-related interventions.
