The University of Southampton Auditory Implant Service (USAIS) is renowned for providing a regional service for severely and profoundly deaf adults, children and young people in the southern region of England and the Channel Islands. The service is s ituated at the University of Southampton in the Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences. USAIS is looking for a highly motivated Senior Clinical Psychologist to join the multidisciplinary team.
You will be involved in providing a specialist clinical psychology service to severely-profoundly deaf adults who are under assessment for a cochlear implant. You will be involved in supporting adults pre- or post-cochlear implantation. Intervention might include individual sessions for patients, work with the wider family, or group work in the centre as well as working with other members of the multidisciplinary team. Initially this post will involve working with the adult cochlear implant population but there may be opportunities for working with a child and young person caseload in the future. You will have the opportunity to be involved with teaching on courses run at the University. You will also have a key role in the multidisciplinary team for safeguarding. Attendance at conferences and training courses is encouraged and supported for continuing professional development.
You should be an experienced Clinical Psychologist with experience in working in the field of disability/health issues. Experience with deaf people who have cochlear implants is desirable, but your induction will help you gain experience in this field.
Informal enquiries can be made to Nicola Sheppard, Speech and Language Therapist and Team Lead, or Louise Lee, Senior Clinical Psychologist, University of Southampton Auditory Implant Service
Contact USAIS by telephone 02380 593522, or e-mail ais@soton.ac.uk
