Job Summary
  • Work within the Education workstream collaborating closely with the research study team including the 40 participating secondary schools.
  • To collaborate closely with the wider obesity research team all working within the theme of 'Economics of Obesity Research'.
  • To undertake both methodological and policy analysis.
  • To undertake the economic analysis within the Education workstream.
  • To contribute to writing reports for the stakeholders; disseminating research results at academic and policy-relevant meetings and contributing to academic publications, effective media, research seminars and meetings.


Main Duties
  • To work closely with the research study team and with support from Prof E Frew, to develop an analysis plan to measure the short- and long- term economic value of the national school food standards.
  • To undertake the economic analysis within the Education workstream.
  • To identify and exploit, with assistance from Prof Emma Frew any methodological research questions.
  • To contribute to the writing of School-specific and Study-specific reports.
  • To disseminate the research findings using appropriate and effective media, including publication in leading journals, presentations at conferences, research seminars and meetings.
  • To support the wider Centre for Economics of Obesity Research-related activities and administration.
  • To provide support to colleagues and students on applied health economic techniques, particularly within obesity economics research.
  • To support the HEU teaching programme, particularly in relation to the Masters programme in Health Economics & Health Policy and Masters in Public Health Health Economics module.
  • To support any other appropriate activities that will help achieve the objectives of the Centre for Economics of Obesity Research and the wider Health Economics Unit.


Person Specification
  • MSc (or equivalent) in Health Economics.
  • High level knowledge of health economics and/or research methods and techniques to work within the Education workstream of the Economics of Obesity Research work programme.
  • Research experience and scholarship within health economics.
  • Ability to plan and organise the research programme that will fall within the Education workstream.
  • High level analytical capability.
  • Ability to communicate complex information clearly.
  • Ability to work to fixed deadlines.
  • Ability to work as a member of a team and to be able to liase with non-academic stakeholders.
  • Fluency in economic evaluation methods.
