The role

We are seeking to appoint a Senior Lecturer / Lecturer in Design Thinking to join the multi-award-winning team in the Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, which was founded in 2016.

The Centre is a flagship component of the University of Bristol's strategy to further strengthen the links between education, research, entrepreneurship and innovation, and the leveraging of Bristol's city and region as a unique asset on the international stage.

The Design Thinking Lecturer will be central to the further development of the Innovation Programmes which are at the heart of the Centre of Innovation and Entrepreneurship. The aim of the Innovation Programmes is to produce a new kind of highly-skilled graduate whose training will enable them to generate growth and drive societal and global change through innovation.

What will you be doing?

The role requires the development and delivery of design and systems thinking teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and to undertake associated administrative duties as required. A key element of the role is to develop the distinctive human centred design ethos and approach to innovation through both team and project-based studio learning. The post holder will play a central role in helping students, both individually and in groups, to develop innovative products or services. Successful applicants may have a background in teaching at a Higher Education Institute or significant experience in an industrial context. 

You should apply if

You have the following:
  • Expertise specialising in one or more of the following areas:
  • Design practice
  • Design thinking
  • Innovation
  • Significant experience of user research methodologies - including qualitative and quantitative. Either teaching experience in a Higher Education Institute (preferably at a Design School) or significant equivalent experience facilitating / training teams in an industrial context.
  • Evidence of excellent organisational and administrative skills.
  • Evidence of ability to contribute effectively to the administration and management of the University of Bristol's Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship
  • Experience in developing, testing and iterating prototypes with users.
