Provide high-quality veterinary care and advance your skills under the supervision of a team of experienced clinicians and specialists at the University of Adelaide's state-of-the-art Equine Health and Performance Centre, Roseworthy.

We are seeking qualified veterinarians to provide high-quality care for equine patients under the mentorship and guidance of a team of highly experienced equine clinicians and specialists.

Duties primarily include working in the hospital setting assisting internal medicine and surgery specialists, monitoring and treatment of hospitalised patients including emergency triage and critical care. Care for other species (hobby farm animals) may be required from time to time.

In addition, you will have the opportunity to contribute, as appropriate, to primary opinion veterinary services with the support of a team of senior clinicians and skilled nurses. The successful candidates will contribute, as appropriate and under guidance from academic staff, to case-based clinical tuition of veterinary students. Working as part of the clinical team you will be required to participate in the after-hours roster including night shifts, weekends and public holidays.

The Equine Health and Performance Centre (EHPC) is part of the School of Animal and Veterinary Sciences' clinical teaching facility which operates on a commercial basis, offering a range of first opinion and specialist veterinary services to the general public and referring veterinarians. The EHPC also provides a clinical training environment for veterinary students working under the close supervision of experienced veterinarians, nurses and support staff. The EHPC is situated on the University's picturesque Roseworthy Campus, approximately 9km from the township of Gawler and on the doorstep of the world-renowned Barossa Valley wine region.

To be successful you will need:
  • Veterinary qualification with eligibility to be registered as a veterinarian in South Australia and experience in working with students.
  • Experience in equine clinical practice and emergency care or, for recent graduates, demonstration of strong clinical skills and interest in equine practice during training.
  • Demonstrated high level of professionalism including outstanding interpersonal skills to work effectively with a diverse range of clients and as a member of a team, high level written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to keep detailed, accurate medical records and write professional referral letters and client correspondence.
  • Demonstrated organisational skills with proven ability to effectively prioritise work and balance competing deadlines to achieve work outcomes.
  • A valid South Australian class C motor vehicle licence.
