Would you like to play a part in a major scientific project seeking to understand the risks of Covid-19 transmission on public transport?

Do you have strong modelling or analytic skills, plus a background in transport, human geography, big data, population health or equivalent field?

The TRACK project, led by the University of Leeds and sponsored by UKRI/ Department for Transport has an opportunity for a researcher to join the multidisciplinary TRACK team, contributing to this nationally important research project. The goal of the work area you will focus on is to create understanding on who is using public transport modes, when, how and for what journey purpose. This informs understanding of risk related to the COVID virus, how risk differs, and in the design of future mitigation and polices. Based at the Institute for Transport Studies, University of Leeds, you will work with several data technologies, assemble existing data, collect new primary data, analyse a variety of data types and develop or interface different models. You will use common programming languages to write extraction/translation scripts to prepare personal activity data for analysis and appropriate statistical approaches to generate insights with policy implications. The wider TRACK project modelling and data analysis involves experts from the universities of Leeds, Newcastle, Manchester and the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory . Environmental sampling of the virus is being undertaken by Public Health England . Researchers at the University of Cambridge and Imperial College London are investigating the analysis of airflows inside carriages.
