We are seeking to appoint a full-time Teaching Fellow in Physiotherapy to contribute to the delivery of both our pre and post-registration Physiotherapy programmes within the School. Working within the placement education team the post holder will teach, assess and support students across our programmes. They will play an important role in preparing students for placements and providing support when on placement. The appointed candidate will successfully maintain relationships with key external stakeholders in the delivery of student placements and in working with others support the development of innovative approaches in placement education.

Role Summary

The post holder will make a substantial contribution to the delivery of placement education on the School's physiotherapy degree programmes. Working within the physiotherapy placement education team they will prepare students for placements and provide support to them whilst on placement. This activity will include; involvement with placement allocation, quality assurance activities, support of both individual students and student groups, long-arm supervision of our innovative placement provision.

Alongside these students' focussed roles the post holder will be expected to contribute to the administration of placement education and maintenance of relationships with key internal and external stakeholders in placement education.

The post holder will be expected to maintain and update their own professional practice skills on a regular basis and have excellent organisational and time management skills. Opportunities will be provided for the appointed candidate to develop themselves through leadership opportunities and ongoing professional development in higher education.

Main Duties
  • Teach courses at a range of levels to undergraduates, postgraduates, and CPD students, so that the School's teaching objectives are met.
  • Use of appropriate approaches to learning and teaching in their field.
  • Contribute to the design of modules with other colleagues.
  • Plan and prepare own teaching, including guidance notes and handouts in accordance with the established objectives of the teaching programme.
  • Develop online learning materials and resources to support module delivery.
  • Devise and deliver practical work to develop students' practical healthcare skills.
  • Plan and review their own educational practice.
  • Undertake full range of responsibilities in relation to supervision, marking, and examining.
  • Frequently update own subject expertise.
  • Maintain own HCPC registration.
  • Contribute to the admissions process for physiotherapy programmes.
  • Act as a personal tutor to students.
  • Undertake personal professional development, including self-reflection on own teaching, using student and peer review feedback, to enhance own teaching and learning processes.
  • Contribute to School teaching-related administration.
  • Promote equality and value diversity acting as a role model and fostering an inclusive working culture.
  • Active promotion of equality, diversity, and inclusivity to internal and external stakeholders.


Person Specification

Essential
  • Higher degree relevant to the Physiotherapist role
  • Qualified physiotherapist holding current HCPC registration.
  • Appropriate level of experience in supporting placement education in health care delivery.
  • Experience of developing students use of research in physiotherapy practice.
  • Experience of teaching physiotherapy in the academic or practice setting
  • Evidence of successful contribution to key stakeholder relationships e.g. clinical partners, service users.
  • Understanding of and ability to contribute to broader programme administration processes.
  • Ability to work successfully in a team environment.
  • A commitment to quality enhancement in practice.
  • Demonstrated ability to work to tight deadlines.
  • Excellent organisation and time-management skills.


Desirable
  • Working towards a doctoral level qualification
  • Experience of delivering learning and assessment in higher education.
  • Ability to design and deliver module materials successfully.
  • Experience of designing, building and delivering online learning materials.
  • Evidence of implementing new initiatives in health care.
  • Able to use data to identify equality and diversity issues.
  • Experience of developing interventions to address equality, diversity and inclusivity issues
  • Knowledge of the protected characteristics of the Equality Act 2010, and how to actively ensure in their own area that those with protected characteristics are treated equally and fairly.
