The role

We wish to appoint a talented and enthusiastic person at Senior Research Associate or Research Fellow level in medical statistics and epidemiology to join the team based in the Musculoskeletal Research Unit in Bristol Medical School. As the post holder you would be required to conduct statistical analyses of large routinely collected and research based healthcare datasets.

What will you be doing?

As the post holder you will conduct statistical analyses of large health datasets, that includes data from the Clinical Practice Research Datalink (CPRD), Hospital Episode Statistics (HES) and the National Joint Registry (NJR). You will write up research outputs in the form of academic papers for publication and conference presentations as lead and co-author. As the post-holder you will also contribute to the development of future grant applications by the team.

You should apply if
  • You have a PhD in medical statistics, epidemiology or a health-related subject or a Masters level degree in a relevant discipline with experience of working in academia/ health research settings involving the application of epidemiological and statistical methods;
  • You can show evidence of knowledge and experience of epidemiological study designs and associated methodologies used in medical research;
  • You have experience of using and writing commands in statistical packages, handling large datasets and statistical analysis techniques including regression modelling and survival analysis
  • You have a track record of peer-reviewed research outputs;
  • You have excellent oral and written communication skills and are able to communicate effectively with colleagues from multiple scientific/clinical disciplines.
