The WorldPop research programme, based at the University of Southampton, is an award winning, multi-sectoral team of researchers, technicians and project specialists working on producing data on population distributions and characteristics at high spatial resolution. WorldPop has a diverse portfolio of projects, including large multi-million-pound collaborative projects with partner organisations, such as the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Flowminder Foundation, UN agencies and other key organisations.

The Global Challenges Research Fund (GCRF) Research Councils UK Collective Fund is 'one of the most ambitious international research programmes created; with £225 Million being invested across 37 interdisciplinary projects' to address a range of world problems. The University of Southampton's project: 'Building REearch Capacity for sustainable water and food security in drylands of sub-saharan Africa (BRECcIA) is proud to be part of this innovative research cohort. BRECcIA comprises 13 partner organisations located in 9 countries, working on building research capability and capacity for food and water security.

We are seeking to jointly recruit a Finance Manager to provide effective financial management to WorldPop' and BRECcIA programme activities. The post holder will be expected to oversee the Worldpop group's research and enterprise finances, providing pre- and post-award financial advice, guidance and management information, providing approval for costings and contracts and acting as the focal point of contact for all the research grants and international partners. The post holder will also manage the complex reconciliation of the BRECcIA project finances as the project enters its final phase, providing expert support to maximise the spend of remaining funds to help the project achieve its final outputs.

The successful candidate will have experience in managing the accounts of externally funded research projects and should be able to demonstrate significant knowledge of accounting standards. Previous experience in higher education accounting, international project accounting and budget setting and reconciliation are essential.
