Lecturer / Junior Lecturer / Therapist

The Division of Human Nutrition is situated in the Department of Global Health and offers an internationally recognised four-year BSc Dietetics programme at undergraduate level,

as well as postgraduate education. The main research focus areas of the Division are Food and Nutrition Security, including the right to food and governance and indigenous

knowledge systems; Maternal and Child Nutrition and Well-being; Specialised Nutritional Support, and Food Safety and Legislation. We are committed to facilitating knowledge

and skills development of our students to support safe, competent practice of nutrition in local and national contexts. The Division seeks to appoint a junior lecturer or lecturer for

the programmes offered in Human Nutrition. If appointed at Junior Lecturer level, the incumbent will be expected to enrol for a Master's degree.

  • Teaching and training undergraduate students in theoretical and practical aspects of Human Nutrition or Dietetics;
  • Rendering clinical services and consultation in relevant areas within the public health sector;
  • Academic administration;
  • Continuous and summative evaluation of students;
  • Participating in nutrition-related research at undergraduate level.

  • A Bachelor's degree in Human Nutrition or Dietetics for Junior Lecturer, or a Master's degree for a Lecturer;
  • A qualified dietitian registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA);
  • At least one year experience of working as a professional dietitian in a hospital; or at least one year experience of teaching at a Higher Education institution, or experience


A Bachelor's degree in Human Nutrition or Dietetics for Junior Lecturer, or a Master's degree for a Lecturer;

A qualified dietitian registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA);

At least one year experience of working as a professional dietitian in a hospital; or at least one year experience of teaching at a Higher Education institution, or experience

as clinical supervisor of students in training;
  • Proven organisational skills;
  • The ability to function well within a team;
  • Good interpersonal skills;
  • Computer literacy (MS Office and specifically Excel).

  • Research experience and a good knowledge of research methodology;
  • Registration for a Master's degree or enrolled as a PhD student in Human Nutrition or Dietetics;
