The role

We wish to recruit 5 FTE researchers. The post holders will be working on a major research programme concerning religious and/or spiritual beliefs and associated behaviours and their impact on mental and physical health and well-being with a large group of international co-investigators. Information gathered longitudinally from participants (from infancy to adulthood) in a large UK cohort - Avon Longitudinal Study of Parents and Children , will be analysed.

What will you be doing?
  • Develop and carry out detailed analysis plans using statistical techniques appropriate to the research question and field (e.g., psychology, epidemiology, genetics).
  • Critically interpret findings and participate in the dissemination of these through high-impact academic publications.
  • Participate in other forms of dissemination that may lead to impact e.g. presenting research findings at local, national, and international meetings and conferences.
  • Keep up to date with the relevant science and statistical methodology, and where appropriate, contribute to development of novel statistical methods.
  • Communicate and collaborate with other co-investigators based in both the UK and overseas.


You should apply if
  • You are experienced in advanced statistical techniques
  • You are able to manipulate and analyse large datasets
  • You have experience of working with longitudinal cohort data (especially experience with ALSPAC data
  • You have experience and evidence of applying advanced epidemiological or psychological statistical methods, including handling of missing data.
  • You have good organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • You can demonstrate a high level of competency with statistical packages e.g. Stata, R
  • You have experience of presenting research results to varied audiences.
  • You are self-motivated and able to organise your own time effectively.
  • You have experience of leading on elements of research projects with support of PI/line manager (for appointment at J grade)
  • You have a track record of publication of research papers commensurate with the candidate's years of experience and completed projects.
