You will join the Centre for Electronic Frontiers (CEF) at University of Southampton developing testing automation for AI hardware. This 2 year fixed term position will be based at the Highfield Campus and will commence as soon as possible.

Our ambition is to push the frontiers of electronics through emerging nanotechnologies, disrupting current ways of thinking by innovating advanced energy-efficient Hardware solutions for AI. To realise this vision, we are seeking exceptional candidates to join our team, interested in devoting their passion for addressing some of the challenges we have identified.

This position is affiliated with a prestigious Royal Academy of Engineering Chair in Emerging Technologies held by Prof Prodromakis, Director of CEF. Based within our large interdisciplinary team lead by Prof Themis Prodromakis you will support the delivery of the vision of this 10-year programme that seeks to exploit the benefits of novel Memristive Technologies for developing Embedded AI Hardware solutions for Lifelong Learning applications.

This post will involve the development of software for automating test and measurement of Resistive RAM (RRAM; memristors) based circuits ranging from standalone devices to 1 Mbit arrays and neuromorphic hardware. You will join the group's instrumentation engineers who have developed in collaboration with ArC Instruments commercial tools for evaluating large memristive arrays in parallel. In addition, you will be responsible for scaling up existing tests and algorithms to accommodate the design of new arrays and neuromorphic circuits developed within CEF as well as develop novel testing and characterisation protocols. You will also have the opportunity to interact and collaborate closely with researchers and PhD students from different disciplines that are everyday users of the tools.

It is essential you have a PhD* or equivalent professional qualifications and experience in one of the following - Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering or a closely related subject area. In addition you will have a strong background in one or more of the following areas relating to this post:

Knowledge of the Qt framework for user interface design and/or experience with the ARM Cortex-M platform are desirable. Additionally, familiarity with test and measurement automation and instrumentation for semiconductor devices will be considered favourably.

There will be some travel involved both within the United Kingdom and abroad to conduct research, visit collaborators, and attend conferences.

Applicants must be able to communicate in English demonstrating the ability to communicate new and complex information effectively both verbally and in writing engaging the target audience.
