Senior Lecturer/Lecturer in Health Professions Education

The Centre for Health Professions Education (CHPE) is an academic unit that seeks to promote teaching and learning within the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FMHS) through its postgraduate programmes, research and faculty development initiatives. We are looking for a dynamic, creative and committed individual to join our team.

Responsibilities:
  • Supporting the M Phil in Health Professions Education programme through teaching and supervision, module coordination and general student engagement;
  • Organising, designing, presenting and facilitating faculty development activities in the CHPE that aim to support the professional learning of staff for their teaching and assessment roles;


  • Consulting with and advising staff in the FMHS on matters relating to their teaching and learning practices;
  • Conducting and facilitating others' teaching and learning related research in the context of health professions education;
  • Contributing to the research outputs of the Centre, including the development and implementation of relevant research activities; generation of funding support; and dissemination via conferences, webinars, social media and through publication in suitable peer-reviewed journals and/or books;


  • Undertaking preparation and dissemination of reports, minutes and related communication on behalf of the CHPE, as needed.


Requirements:
  • A relevant PhD in either higher or health professions education (Senior Lecturer);
  • A minimum of five years' experience at a higher education institution;
  • Knowledge of the South African Higher Education sector;
  • Proven research experience with relevant outputs;
  • Experience in project management, with an eye for detail;
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Good presentation skills;
  • Strong writing ability, including both academic and general communication, minutes, and reports;
  • Good computer skills in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, as well as experience of working on a learning management system.
  • A PhD in Health Professions Education (Lecturer);
  • An undergraduate qualification in the health sciences;
  • Experience in a health sciences teaching environment;
  • Knowledge of more than one South African language;
  • Specific skills and background in learning technologies;
  • An established research profile, and experience of grant writing;
