About the role

As Executive Officer, you will provide high level professional support to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Vice-President (Research) (DVCR) across a wide range of activities in order to keep her informed, and in a position to lead the university to deliver on the 2027 Research Strategy, including advancing new strategic initiatives; to act effectively on critical issues; and reform where required policy and procedures.

You will undertake information gathering, synthesis and assessment of a wide variety of issues; coordinate a range of projects and activities; undertake liaison activities; draft policy; and act on the DVCR's behalf in designated matters. Operating with a high degree of initiative and authority you will have diverse responsibilities ranging from high-level strategic support to overseeing core administrative support for the Office of the DVCR (ODVCR).

Located in the Chancellery, this exciting role will see you working with a variety of internal and external stakeholders on a diverse range of activities. This opportunity will give you exposure to UTS's strategy at the highest levels and allow you to utilise your extensive experience in program delivery, research management and stakeholder engagement.

About the area

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) is charged with leading transformational change to enhance the research culture, productivity and connectedness of UTS research activities and maximise the impact of UTS research. The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) has responsibility for the University's research strategy and policies, the central research budget, research and contract research activities, higher degree by research education, industry engagement in research, knowledge exchange, research translation, intellectual property and commercialisation and the international business assurance. The Research Division includes the following units:
  • Office of the DVC Research (ODVCR)
  • Research Office
  • Graduate Research School (GRS)
  • Institute for Sustainable Futures (ISF)
  • Institute for Public Policy and Governance (IPPG)
  • International Business Assurance Team (IBAT)

In addition, the DVCR has responsibilities for research concentrations, including university research centres and the strategic research initiatives. There is also extensive interaction with each of the Faculties regarding their research activities, focus funding and outputs.

Detailed Description

As the ideal candidate for the role, you will be:
  • A strategic planner with the capacity for systematic thinking and the ability to analyse information and situations, identify issues, assess impacts and propose options/ recommendations based on sound rationale
  • An experienced executive support professional, who holds a record of achievement in a relevant professional role, including demonstrated delivery of diverse programs and projects
  • Pragmatic and proactive: You'll have a high level of initiative and energy, flexibility, personal integrity and accountability, the ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines and on multiple tasks
  • A confident relationship builder, able to effectively manage relationships utilising your excellent influencing and networking skills
  • Knowledgeable in the research environment within the higher education sector
