The role

The Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at the University of Bristol has an international reputation for excellence in research and teaching. The Department currently has a vacancy for a Lectureship / Senior Lectureship on Mobile Internet to complement the research and network activities of the Smart Internet Lab. The post will support the teaching of our degree courses in Electrical and Electronic Engineering within the School of Computer, Electrical & Electronic Engineering, and Engineering Mathematics (SCEEM).

You will be a member of Smart Internet Lab ( www.bristol.ac.uk/smart ) and an associated academic of the Bristol Digital Futures Institute (http://www.bristol.ac.uk/bristol-digital-futures-institute/).

What will you be doing

This post will conduct leading-edge research advancing the state of the art in emerging mobile network trends and standards, such as service-based architectures, stand-alone packet core solutions, mobile edge computing, automation/autonomy, 6G, mobile, and IoT.

Be involved in the development of our students which includes curriculum design and evaluation, course development and delivery, and project development with students.

Be an active and positive contributor within the University community and engage across the School, the Faculty, and the University.

Supervise and mentor Ph.D. students and post-doctoral researchers.

Pursue research funding opportunities and collaborations with academics and industrial nationally and internationally.

You should apply if you have
  • A Ph.D. qualification in Computer Science or Electronic Engineering.
  • Strong interest to engage in research and development with a passion for Teaching & Learning.
  • Good understanding of communications networks, mobile networks, and associated hardware and software technologies.
  • Good knowledge in emerging mobile network trends and standards, such as service-based architectures, stand-alone packet core solutions, mobile edge computing, automation/autonomy, 6G, mobile, and IoT.
  • Keen interest to address socio-technical aspects associated with connectivity and mobility, such as responsible innovation, privacy, digital divide, ethics, and safety.
  • An excellent research record demonstrated through strong publications in one or more of the following areas:
    • Next-generation mobile networks
    • Mobile Internet
    • Control and management of mobile networks
    • Mobile sensor networks
    • Mobile Ad hoc Networks
    • Machine learning for mobile communications
  • Good interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
  • Strong interest to engage in collaborative interdisciplinary research within academia and with industry.
