Role Summary

Pfizer's Oncology Research Unit (ORU) is seeking an Associate Scientist to join our Biochemistry and Quantitative Pharmacology (BQP) group. BQP is an interdisciplinary and highly collaborative team that employs biochemical, cellular, biophysical, and high throughput assays to identify and characterize novel small molecules to support the development of first in class therapeutics. In this role, the candidate will be expected to develop, validate, and execute biochemical and cellular assays, interpret experimental results, and present their research to colleagues as an integral member of the project team. This position will provide the motivated candidate with ample opportunity for scientific growth through exposure to all aspects of the drug discovery process.

Role Responsibilities
  • Work with supervisor to develop, validate, and implement robust biochemical and cellular assays for novel oncology targets
  • Perform routine screening with new and existing assays in medium and high-throughput formats to drive in vitro SAR
  • Analyze, document, and present high-quality data at internal meetings
  • Perform sterile cell culture to grow and maintain multiple cancer cell lines
  • Maintain laboratory instrumentation and follow safe-lab practices
  • Contribute to a culture that prioritizes scientific discovery, pursues excellence, and encourages growth


Basic Qualifications
  • BS Degree in the biological sciences field with 0+ years of experience in and academic or pharmaceutical/biotech environment
  • General knowledge of safe laboratory practices, including some hands-on experience doing basic pipetting, dilutions, etc.
  • Highly productive, motivated to learn, well organized with attention to detail, and able to multi-task
  • Ability to effectively interact, contribute, and communicate with the team
  • Proficient using Microsoft Office and basic data analysis software


Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience running high throughput plate-based biochemical and cellular assays such as TR-FRET, NanoBRET, thermal shift, CETSA, Alpha-Screen, HiBit, flow cytometry, Mesoscale/ELISA, etc.
  • Proficient at aseptic cell culture technique
  • Knowledge and understanding of cancer mechanisms including cancer cell cycle regulation or immuno-oncology.
  • Pharmaceutical/Biotech experience


PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Basic job will require both work at the lab bench and analysis time at the computer.
  • Must be able to wear PPE (lab coat/safety shoes/gloves/etc).
