The University of Bristol's IT Services department is seeking to recruit a Senior Database Administrator to join its Storage and Databases Team. You will be supporting the design, development, maintenance, and support of the University's mission critical IT infrastructure.

What will you be doing?

You will have extensive experience and knowledge of administrating Oracle Database 12c to 19c databases at an enterprise scale. Microsoft SQL Server and MySQL database administration experience would also be highly advantageous. Experience of supporting student information systems (eg SITS) and university clearing and confirmation processes would be advantageous.

You will also possess knowledge and experience in most of the following areas: Database related development tools and utilities, Windows operating systems, Solaris and Linux. Logical and physical database design and architecture, database performance tuning and monitoring, database backup and recovery, database security management, High Availability architecture and configuration.

You would be expected to work closely with the Senior Databases Administrators on all aspects of maintaining and developing the University's mission critical databases. As such you should have knowledge and experience of running these solutions in this type of environment, including liaising with software vendors to identify and resolve technical issues.

You will need to be highly motivated with demonstrable experience of enterprise scale IT operations and infrastructure, along with the ability to communicate effectively to people in all areas of the University. This role will be expected to hit the ground running and function independently and autonomously from the outset.
