The role

The University of Bristol is one of the UK's leading research universities. We are committed to the highest standards of care and welfare for animals used in medical research.

An opportunity has arisen for two enthusiastic and motivated team players to join the Animal Service Unit to help with the day to day running of different animal facilities. Do you have experience with breeding rodents? Working with farm species or maybe fish? Then come talk with us!!

What will you be doing?

This role focuses around the care and maintenance of both conventional and genetically modified animals, working in the University's animal units. We are looking for someone to care for stock and research animals; to provide an efficient and effective supply of high health status animals to a wide range of users across the university; to promote a culture of care

You should apply if
  • You are an experienced animal technician, working towards IAT Level 3 or equivalent qualifications. Promoting the 3Rs and a culture of care will be very important to you and you will be confident to get involved in training and supervising more junior members of staff.
  • You have experience of working with rodents, fish or farm animals including experimental uses, their husbandry, welfare and breeding. You should be used to IT animal management platforms and their use in keeping animals/cages up to date with the system and with cage labelling. You understand the requirements of welfare checks and what to do if a team member has a concern with any animal.
  • You have good verbal and written skills and be comfortable and professional in communicating with a range of staff from team colleagues to more senior staff including managers, Named Veterinary Surgeon and researchers.

We welcome applications from all members of our community and are particularly encouraging those from diverse groups, such as members of the LGBT+ and BAME communities, to join us.
