MANAGER: FACULTY LIBRARY - FACULTY OF EDUCATION (1position) AND FACULTY OF HUMANITIES & THEOLOGY (1 position)

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The incumbent will be responsible for:
  • Providing strategic professional leadership;
  • Facilitating information supply to all departments/centres/units in the Faculties;
  • Representing the Department of Library Service in Faculties;
  • Liaising with the Deans, Deputy Deans, HOD's, staff and students;
  • Information resources management;
  • Management of physical resources and technology;
  • Managing, training and developing of staff;
  • Knowledge management;
  • Participating in library forums, meetings and workshops;
  • Promoting the Department of Library Services;
  • Overseeing HR and staff performance management;
  • Planning operations for the Faculty library;
  • Managing the information resources allocation.


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  • Library qualification (e.g. B.Bibl, PG Dip.LIS or B.Inf (Hons) AND or a relevant Honors;
  • Experience in the following:
    • A minimum of 6 years' working experience in an academic library or research library of which 2 years should be in management;
    • Working as an Information Specialist with knowledge of the subject and work environment of the primary users;
    • Research process;
    • The use and impact of information technology;
    • Managing teams.


REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):
  • Expert knowledge of the subject and work environment of the primary users;
  • Knowledge of the research process;
  • Expert knowledge of relevant information resources;
  • The ability to organise information and make it available to the community;
  • Knowledge of marketing of DLS services and products;
  • The ability to identify training needs and provide relevant training;
  • Ability to benchmark services and products;
  • Knowledge of legal requirements with regards to information distribution and information media;
  • Expert knowledge of training and evaluation methods;
  • Creativity, innovation and adaptability;
  • Client-focused;
  • Emotional intelligence;
  • Financial Management skills;
  • Relevant information technology (Software and Hardware);
  • Negotiating skills.


ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCES:
  • A master's degree;
  • Subject related qualifications.
  • A valid driver's licence

The annual remuneration package will be commensurate with the incumbent's level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines. UP subscribes to the BESTMED and UMVUZO medical aid schemes and contributes 50% of the applicable monthly premium.
