The Biozentrum of the University of Basel is one of the leading life sciences institutes in the world. It consists of 32 groups and 500 employees that research how molecules and cells create life, spanning the scale from atom to organism. Founded in 1971, the Biozentrum has been the birthplace of many fundamental discoveries in biology and medicine, spawning several Nobel Laureates.

The FACS Core Facility (FCF) provides efficient and high quality flow cytometry services to all Biozentrum researchers and is supporting them in a broad range of basic research projects.

Your position

In this role you will support researchers in smooth and reliable cell sorting and cell analysis. You will operate and maintain flow cytometers and ensure instrument data is accurately acquired and managed. This will involve maintenance including QC and operation of machinery, training and consulting of facility users.

Your responsibilities will include:
  • Operation and maintenance of the high-speed cell sorters (BD FACSAriaFusion, BD FACSAriaIII, BD FACSMelody)
  • Instruction and supervision of users operating flow analyzers (BD LSRFortessa, BD FACS CantoII)
  • Responsibility for quality control, maintenance and troubleshooting of the instruments
  • Providing advice in experimental design, data analysis and interpretation of results


Your profile

We are looking to recruit a highly motivated person with a Bachelor or Master degree in Cell Biology, Molecular Biology or Immunology or equivalent experience. Previous experience with flow cytometry, cell sorting and/or flow cytometry data analysis is desirable. Excellent interpersonal and strong verbal and written communication skills in English are essential. It is required that the candidate has an independent work style but also enjoys working in a collaborative team environment.
