Opportunity to Manage the University's comprehensive insurance program

The insurance function is part of the Legal and Risk Branch within the Division of University Operations. The Branch provides services and advice across a range of disciplines including legal, risk, compliance, contracts, governance, internal audit, copyright, trusts and bequests and insurance. The Legal and Risk Branch also manages University- wide frameworks for Legal Compliance, Risk Management, Contract Management, and Trust and Bequest Management.

Working under broad direction, the role of the Manager, Insurance is to provide independent insurance advice to senior and executive managers and professional support services to University personnel across all faculties, divisions, branches and the controlled entities, and liaise with brokers and underwriters.

Areas in which advice may be required include:
  • managing insurance contracts
  • reviewing and assessing legal liability in contracts and Deeds of Settlement
  • assessing and managing claims and investigations
  • managing the annual review, placement and maintenance of the insurance program
  • executive and strategic support, training and mentoring on insurance matters or disputes

To be successful you will need:
  • Extensive post-qualification experience in an insurance company, in an insurance advisory role or a law firm.
  • Demonstrated experience in insurance law and/or insurance contracts management.
  • Business and industry experience related to professional risk services and liability insurance programs.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the operations of the insurance and global risk markets at local and international levels.
  • Demonstrated ability to problem-solve and provide pragmatic and commercial solutions, taking into account relevant legal and non-legal factors.
