Executive Dean: Faculty of Environment

Employer
University of Leeds
Location
Leeds, United Kingdom
Closing date
Jul 2, 2021
The University of Leeds is one of the largest, most prestigious and diverse research-intensive universities in the UK. We achieved Gold in the Teaching Excellence Framework, we were the Sunday Times University of the Year 2017, we are in the world's top 100 universities in the QS rankings and in the UK's top 10 for research power and impact. These successes are supported by an outstanding community of staff and students, a world-class campus and a strong financial position. The University also plays a key role at the heart of one of the UK's most economically vibrant and compassionate cities, and takes its economic, social, environmental and cultural responsibilities very seriously.

Under the leadership of our recently appointed Vice-Chancellor, Professor Simone Buitendijk, we have launched our new University Strategy 2020-2030: Universal Values, Global Change . A blueprint for a values-driven university, we will harness our expertise in research and education to help shape a better future for humanity, working through collaboration to tackle inequalities, achieve societal impact and drive change in genuinely distinctive and transformational ways. To help realise this exciting ambition we are now seeking to appoint a new Executive Dean to lead our Faculty of Environment. Highly interdisciplinary, the Faculty brings together expert knowledge to address the major challenges facing society today through the Schools of Earth and Environment; Food Science and Nutrition; Geography and the Institute for Transport Studies. The Faculty of Environment delivers genuinely world-leading academic excellence, across a broad portfolio of research and student education, as evidenced by a consistently strong performance in all major national and global rankings. A number of high-profile national research centres are located within the Faculty, it delivers a consistently high National Student Survey (NSS) performance and it generates significant impact for a broad range of global academic, government and industry partners.

This is an exciting opportunity to shape and lead a significant part of the University's academic portfolio, building on the Faculty's numerous strengths to propel it forward to even further excellence. We are therefore seeking candidates with sustained academic leadership experience gained at a strategic level, who can successfully engage and inspire staff through the complexities of transformational change and that have a track record of delivering major programmes of work to successful completion. They will also be a leading academic in their discipline, committed to the transformational power of higher education and passionate about delivering world-leading research and delivering an exceptional student experience in an international and interdisciplinary context.
