The role

This position is an excellent opportunity for a health or social care researcher with expertise in project management, and in mixed methods research studies in healthcare settings. The post will involve working with Dr Rachel Johnson, clinical lecturer at the Centre for Academic Primary Care, and Professor Chris Salisbury, Professor of Primary Health Care, an international expert in multimorbidity research. The post-holder will work on an NIHR-funded research study, Personalised Primary Care for People with Multimorbidity (PPP4M). The PP4M study will evaluate the implementation of an intervention to support the delivery of personalised care to people with multiple health conditions in primary care, using mixed methods.

The post-holder will be based in the Centre for Academic Primary Care, a leading centre for research and teaching in relation to primary health care in the UK, and one of only three departments to have been a member of the NIHR School for Primary Care Research since its inception in 2006. We conduct high-quality research within themes relating to primary care, addressing questions of high priority to the NHS, and attracting high-quality external research grant funding. Much research relates to important clinical areas such as infection, mental health, domestic violence, and cardiovascular disease, or wider questions of great importance for health policy, for example into the organisation of care and evaluation of new models of service delivery. This study is a collaboration between the Universities of Bristol, Southampton, Keele and Plymouth.

The Centre has excellent facilities at Canynge Hall, alongside other colleagues from the Department of Population Health Sciences. This allows collaboration with experts from a range of related disciplines, in particular epidemiologists, public health researchers, medical statisticians, social scientists and health economists. The Centre has strong links with local general practices, CCGs and NHS Trusts, and has a major role in the NIHR Applied Research Collaboration (ARC) West. More widely, the University of the West of England contributes to the academic environment through its Faculty of Health and Social Care and its particular remit for nursing and the Professions Allied to Medicine. The Centre works closely with the GP School in the Severn Deanery. We have close links with the NIHR West of England Clinical Research Network (CRN).
