We are looking for a Journals Publishing Assistant or Senior Journals Publishing Assistant to join our Psychology and Human Behavior team. This is a really exciting opportunity for someone to start their career or grow their experience within journals publishing. You will provide a broad range of editorial and administrative support to Journal Publishing Managers (JPMs), all of which is targeted to contribute to the overall financial, operational, and general achievement of the journals assigned to the JPA. With the JPM, your work will support some of the leading education and psychological societies. It's a collaborative role within a friendly and supportive global subject team comprising editorial, production, marketing, technology, and finance colleagues. Your work with the JPM will also contribute to the achievement of the divisional objectives, including improving the publishing experience for authors, implementing open science initiatives, diversifying our editorial teams, improving profitability, and implementing new workflows and initiatives. You will be an integral member of the Psychology and Human Behavior team, contributing to the smooth operation of your assigned portfolio and may be asked to cover and/or contribute to other journals at any time. Wiley is one of the leading publishers in social sciences.

How you will make an impact:
  • Key activities including compilation of publisher, editorial board, and impact factor reports, assisting with annual pricing activities, conducting internet and other research, communicating information internally to colleagues and externally to clients, overseeing the processing of invoices and payments, drafting financial accounts and contracts, hand-over forms, and assisting with meeting arrangements in support of journals title management.
  • As required, act as a liaison point between external journal editors and other Wiley staff to address routine inquiries, independently where possible, referring others to appropriate colleagues to begin building relationships with external contacts and to support and learn internal processes. Regular checking all areas of assigned journal websites, and updating editorial areas of assigned journal websites, and applying strategies to assigned journals for new website improvements and page builds.
  • Regularly prepare drafts of accounts, contracts, hand-over forms, editorial board and publisher reports, and general external communications using templates/form letters and information provided by the JPM. As required, assist in data retrieval for custom reporting by using both internal reporting systems and external sources.
  • As directed by JPMs, regularly use web and other information sources to identify competitive/market information to assist in development strategy of the portfolio or the pre-qualification/bidding process of acquisitions prospects.
  • Support JPMs during incoming and outgoing title transitions.
  • Organize internal and external meetings and attend and take notes as required to help support the JPMs with internal and external relationship management. In the future you may also be required to organize catering for in person meetings.
  • On a monthly basis, ensure invoices are processed and payments are made to meet contract terms.
  • As required, update central systems including internal customized journals publishing databases to ensure accuracy of information and effective communication.
  • In the future you may also be required to provide support at conferences as/if required, to include setting up and manning a Wiley exhibit, speaking with existing and potential customers, authors, editors, and society executives, and taking orders for books and journals to help promote the Wiley image and to help maintain strong internal and external relationships.
  • At a Senior Journals Publishing Assistant level you will oversee the editorial management, strategic development, and financial performance for a small number of Wiley owned titles with the support of your manager and Publisher.

We are looking for people who:
  • Must be computer literate and proficient in word processing (i.e. MS Word), spreadsheets (i.e. MS Excel), and using the Internet for research, with an eagerness to learn additional computer programs.
  • Knowledge of presentation applications (i.e. PowerPoint) essential.
  • Must be well organized and detail oriented with demonstrated effective time-management and follow-up skills.
  • Requires demonstrated professional verbal and written communication skills and excellent interpersonal skills at all levels of business.
  • Must have strong analytical skills with the ability to independently solve problems.
  • Must be capable of managing multiple tasks simultaneously amid tight deadlines.
  • Prior work experience with project-related financials is a strong plus.
  • Willingness and ability to travel and undertake some weekend work may be required in the future.
  • At a Senior Journals Publishing Assistant level prior experience of academic publishing is desirable but not essential.
