Associate Director/Senior Manager Medical Affairs (m/f/d)

Oncology (Haematooncology - MDS, AML)

The Position

We have an exciting opportunity for an Associate Director or experienced Senior Manager Medical Affairs to pioneer earlier pre-launch work in a new therapeutic area. This is the first role of a future team for a new therapeutic mechanism in haematooncology with a focus on myeloid tumours, specifically myelodysplastic syndrome and acute myeloid leaukaemia. While the role focusses on Medical Affairs work there will be many touchpoints with local and global development and commercial functions, requiring a good understanding of the cross-functional nature of launch preparation.

The role has a national scope (i.e. Germany), is office-based in Martinsried (Munich) with the possibility of a flexible work arrangement, and also requires national and international travel (including internal meetings and external scientific conferences). The position will initially report to the Country Medical Director. At a later stage it is expected that the role will report into the Medical Affairs Therapeutic Area Director, once the final department structure has been established.

Specific responsibilities:

  • Develops a thorough understanding of the therapeutic landscape in the assigned therapeutic area in Germany and feeds this knowledge strategically into global and local planning groups.
  • Builds strategic relationships with external researchers, clinicians, and other stakeholders to foster the scientific exchange with Gilead and support clinical or research projects where appropriate.
  • Advises on and supports clinical research activities in Germany (non-GCP site interactions)
  • Plans and develops the local Medical Affairs strategy in the Therapeutic Area and executes Medical Affairs activities and scientific projects based on the medical strategy and Plan of Action, in close collaboration with other functions.
  • Develops and conducts medical education and communication activities, including digital, face-to-face, and print.
  • Is involved in scientific publication activities.
  • Provides medical leadership in the cross-functional brand and launch team, which will initially be mostly at the international level.
  • Is a key company representative to groups of experts, medical professional groups, societies, patient representatives, regulatory groups, and represents the company at national and international scientific meetings.
  • Establishes and maintains strong working relationships with external medical experts locally and internationally, including academic societies.
  • Plans and conducts Advisory Boards as needed to obtain insights.
  • Presents scientific and clinical data in a variety of different settings.
  • Works collaboratively with Gilead personnel in European affiliates, Global Medical Affairs, Clinical Research, Marketing, Market Access, Sales, Regulatory Affairs, Drug Safety, Public and Government Affairs.
  • Supports the generation of scientific data through collaboration with the Gilead personnel in R&D and Clinical Operations, site support in clinical trials, and by developing local clinical trials including study protocols, as needed.
  • Is responsible for supporting and coordinating Investigator Sponsored Trials - including collaboration with investigators and internal Gilead personnel.

Requirements:

  • Advanced scientific degree (i.e. MD, PharmD, PhD, MSc)
  • Excellent clinical and scientific understanding of oncology including haematooncology, including myelogenous malignancies such as MDS and AML
  • Established German thought leader network in haematooncology
  • At least 5 years pharmaceutical company experience with a minimum of 3 years within Medical Affairs, with product launch experience, or equivalent background
  • Strategic mindset with a focus on collaboration and excellence
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required, in German and English, along with the ability to understand, analyse and communicate medical concepts in a clear and concise way.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills
  • Ability to successfully navigate fast and dynamic situations where there is ambiguity, uncertainty, and change
  • Ability to embrace Gilead's leadership commitments and patient-centric values, including highest ethical and compliance standards
  • Works independently with minimal supervision
  • Excellent organizational skills including attention to detail and prioritization
  • Proven ability to work in a cross-functional matrix
  • Experience of working in an international environment
