ROLE SUMMARY

Pfizer Global Product Development (GPD) supports clinical and late stage development of medicines to deliver breakthroughs that change patients' lives.

The Hospital Business Unit (HBU) is focused on lifecycle management of hospital based products via Value Add, new product developments & extension of geographic reach for on market hospital-based products.

  • As a Project Manager (PM) within HBU you would be responsible to lead cross functional project teams of extremely varied scopes, from confirmation of an early concept through to product launch in hospitals around the world.
  • Imagine the satisfaction of leading diverse teams with scopes ranging from new molecular entities, differentiation of established drugs through technologies, formulations, or changes in routes administration that change the standard of practice and improve the standard of care.
  • As the PM and Medicine Team Lead (MTL) you are responsible to provide comprehensive project management and team leadership to ensure alignment and execution of research, development, medical and commercial strategic and operational objectives.
  • You would be leading internal & external pharmaceutical developments, including drug-device combinations, through internal manufacturing sites & external CMOs, to deliver breakthroughs to change patients' lives.

Medicine Program Development, Strategy, and Planning
  • HBU PMs are Medicine Team Leads, responsible to lead development of integrated program plans and timelines, ensuring alignment between strategy and functional contributions, which may span from lead concept development to LOE.
  • Building on your project management background, the HBU PM Associate Director is skilled at leading teams to integrate both commercial and development strategies.
  • They are adept at encouraging a team to think differently, helping deliver breakthroughs by challenging the status quo and inspiring a team to achieve what sometimes may seem impossible.
  • Further enhance your leadership & project management skills by, at times, partnering with a seasoned Director level PM, to progress development of a complex, multi-faceted development program.
  • The HBU PM drives stage gate / decision point planning and participates in the strategic planning process for the project.
  • In partnership with the Finance Lead and Partner Line representatives, the PM is accountable for developing and maintaining an integrated budget and updated forecasts.
  • Designs, recommends, and implements new processes, approaches, or tools to manage the program or team.


Project Planning & Execution
  • HBU PMs lead critical path development, using creative thinking to take the advantage of speed and accelerate the availability of the resultant medicine.
  • Once developed, the HBU PM monitors progress to plan while proactively addressing any emerging challenges and opportunities to optimize delivery of the plan.
  • Negotiates allocation of functional partner line resources to support endorsed strategy.
  • Maintains project budget, working with the team to optimize resource utilization and maximize return on investment. Reviews or approves operational activities and costs.


Risk Analysis and Management
  • Leads the team in the development, execution & maintenance of integrated risk management plans.
  • Partners with team and stakeholders to identify options to de-risk project plans and capitalize on opportunities.
  • Provide assessment of timing of investment triggers & Go/NoGo decision points.


Information and Communication Management
  • Responsible for the development and management of the communication plan for the program.
  • Ensures effective, accurate, and timely communication of program / budget information to the medicine team, stakeholders / governance & within Pfizer reporting systems.
  • Participates in representing the medicine team in governance presentations, Operating Plan reviews, stakeholder discussions, and other venues.


Team Effectiveness
  • Utilizes negotiation, facilitation, meeting management, and conflict resolution skills to enhance cross-functional team performance.
  • Leads team chartering process & periodic assessment of team health.
  • Identifies team member performance issues & partners with team leadership to recommend & develop appropriate actions.


OVERALL QUALIFICATIONS
  • Demonstrates knowledge of pharmaceutical development, medical and commercial issues that drive late stage development and life cycle management.
  • Demonstrates emotional intelligence with a breadth of diverse leadership experiences and capabilities including: the ability to influence and collaborate with peers, building an Ordinary project team into an Extraordinary team, capable of achieving breakthrough results; the ability to seamless transition between high level leadership to detailed focus on issues resolution, as needed.


BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

Candidate demonstrates a breadth of diverse leadership experiences and capabilities including: the ability to influence and collaborate with peers, develop and coach others, oversee and guide the work of other colleagues to achieve meaningful outcomes and create business impact.

  • Bachelor's degree in one of the disciplines related to drug development or business.
  • 7 or more years of relevant experience within the pharmaceutical industry.
  • Proven track record that demonstrates project management skills leading drug development.
  • Strong track record of performance leading cross-functional teams that achieve results in challenging, fast-paced, and complex matrix team environments.
  • Leadership, negotiation, interpersonal, communication, and meeting facilitation skills.
  • The ability to manage stakeholders and drive difficult decisions through governance.
  • Demonstrated ability to utilize project management tools and techniques.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Advanced degree (PhD, PharmD, MBA).
  • Professional PM certification (Project Management Professional [PMP] or equivalent).
  • Familiarity with clinical trial operations & working with contract research organizations highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of pharmaceutical manufacturing and drug-device delivery systems.
  • Candidate has the ability to be on site at one of the additional locations.

  • Occasional travel required.
