The role
The Department of Hispanic, Portuguese and Latin American Studies is an integral part of a dynamic and forward-looking School of Modern Languages in the Faculty of Arts. Spanish language is a popular option studied by highly qualified and well-motivated undergraduates either as a mandatory part of a Single Honours degree, as part of a Joint Honours degree with another modern language or (as part of a Joint Honours degree) with another subject. Spanish language is also taught as an option to students from all Faculties of the University and as part of the University-Wide Language Programme (UWLP).
What will you be doing?
The successful candidate will be expected to contribute flexibly across the full range of Spanish language teaching at undergraduate level, in specialist and non-specialist units taught on campus, in a blended mode or fully online. S/he will also support the language team in the School of Modern Languages in developing the most up-to-date teaching methods and materials, especially for a digital delivery, and will make an administrative contribution to language-related activities. While some teaching may be delivered online in the coming academic year, staff will need to be available to come into the university.
You should apply if
The successful candidate will have a relevant first degree, native or near native competence in Spanish and English, a postgraduate language teaching qualification, experience in language teaching at a range of levels, ideally in the HE sector, and a commitment to digital education. Ideally, they will be a Cervantes DELE examiner.
We welcome applications from all members of our community and are particularly encouraging those from diverse groups, such as members of the LGBT+ and BAME communities, to join us.
