The role
Based in the world leading Water and Environmental Engineering Research Group ( www.bristol.ac.uk/engineering/research/water/ ) within the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Bristol, this is an exciting opportunity to join a strong team developing state-of-the-art methods for the planning and management of water resource systems. You will work with the project PI (F Pianosi) on her UK EPSRC Fellowship Grant on Robust and transparent planning and operation of water resource infrastructure ( https://gow.epsrc.ukri.org/NGBOViewGrant.aspx?GrantRef=EP/R007330/1 ), focusing on the development of new methods to support long-term planning of water resource systems under deep uncertainty.

What will you be doing?
You will:
- Work with the PI (Pianosi) and other research and industry partners to develop methods for water resource planning under deep uncertainty.
- Develop a pilot application to test and demonstrate the new methods.
- Contribute to implementing the new methods in open source-software packages.
- Support the communication and dissemination of project output through participation to conferences and the production of academic papers.
You should apply if
- You have a PhD in Environmental Engineering/Science with a strong mathematical background and established programming skills; or a PhD in system engineering/math or related areas with an interest in hydrology and water resource systems modelling
- You have previous expertise in hydrology and water resource systems modelling and/or robust decision-making under uncertainty
- You have good programming skills in one or more of the following languages: Matlab - R - Python
