At Wiley, we welcome you for who you are and the background you bring, and we embrace individuals who get excited about learning, whether online or by book. Learning is for everyone, and so is our workplace. Bring your experiences, your perspectives, and your passion. It's in our differences that we empower the way the world learns.

We are looking to hire a Customer Content Editor to create and manage the overall tone and approach for editorial content (both print and digital) for a medical newsmagazine, in conjunction with a physician editor and professional society publishing partner. This person oversees daily editorial operations of the publication, ensuring smooth flow from manuscript writing and editing through production, layout design, and print and digital publication. They will supervise the creation of articles and other products (emails, podcasts, webinars, etc.), which are most often prepared by industry experts or experienced freelance journalists. They will ensure that material is prepared in a journalistic and lively fashion that is more akin to consumer magazines than traditional scientific journals. Finally, they will monitor freelance writing, design, and art budgets, as well as other responsibilities as assigned.

How you will make an impact:
  • Enable the publication of first-rate, timely, lively, and accurate content that is relevant for the type of publication and particular audience of physicians.
  • Coordinate the article editorial process, including assigning articles to freelance writers and industry professional writers for each issue of print newsmagazine and the digital products (emails, website, blog, etc.), editing, and managing content review.
  • Plan and implement all editorial and art ideas by researching topics and talking with the physician editor, contributing editors, and related professionals.
  • Ensure that articles are prepared in a manner that conforms to ethical publishing guidelines and standards set by our society partner.
  • Ensure an adequate pipeline of publishable material.
  • Research and write articles.
  • Develop and maintain a strong contact network and read professional publications to keep abreast of trends in market areas.
  • Keep in contact with the physician editor and editorial board to stay abreast of trends in the specialty and measure the success of the publication.
  • Communicate regularly with the society partner to ensure that Wiley is addressing their concerns and helping them meet their goals for the publication and related products.

We are looking for people who:
  • Have a journalism or other liberal arts degree OR science/medical degree and experience in magazine publishing or journalism.
  • Have a minimum five years' editing experience working in medical publishing or related industry.
  • Are extremely detail oriented and organized, with an excellent verbal and written command of English grammar, spelling, and usage, including technical and scientific terminology.
  • Are an experienced communicator who understands the value and sensitivities of managing external and internal clients and stakeholders and can develop and maintain collaborative working relationships with peers, colleagues, management, and others.
  • Can critically evaluate current process to improve quality and reduce costs and production time.
