The role

Bristol Veterinary School is seeking to recruit a dynamic and outstanding research-active leader in Wildlife Health and Conservation, offering the opportunity to join a growing and dynamic team of researchers in one of the School's research themes: Population Health and Global Food Security, and to help steer our internationally renowned MSc in Global Wildlife Health and Conservation through its next stage of development.

Global loss of biodiversity concentrated in the least developed and low-income countries represents an increasingly important and acknowledged area for expansion of research and of research funding. The University of Bristol has active, internationally respected groups working in highly relevant areas ranging from ecology, climate change and the relationship between humans and their environment, through human, animal and zoonotic infectious disease to bioinformatics for interrogating genomes of non-model organisms.

The post is based at Bristol Veterinary School on the University of Bristol's Langford campus, within the Faculty of Health Sciences.

What will you be doing?

The role of this post is to provide leadership in research and education in this globally important area, and is available at the level of Lecturer, Senior Lecturer or Associate Professor (depending on applicants' experience).

The post holder will support the Programme Director in the leadership, development and academic administration of the MSc in Global Wildlife Health and Conservation programme, joining a team including University of Bristol and Bristol Zoological Gardens staff and other external experts to deliver the programme.

The successful applicant will also provide strong research mentorship and role modelling for staff within the School.

You should apply if

The post-holder is expected to have an active research portfolio in a wildlife-related field that aligns with the School's research themes and with those in the wider University.

Candidates must have a strong track record in obtaining grant income, proven research leadership skills and a drive to identify and coordinate new opportunities for cross-disciplinary research linking with the emerging and exciting innovations across the University, nationally and internationally.

It is expected that the final selection process will be held on either 1st, 27th or 28th September 2021 (please hold these dates free in your diary if applying).

The closing date for applications is 11.59pm on Sunday 1st August 2021.

For an informal discussion about the post, please contact Professor Tim Parkin, Head of School, Bristol Veterinary School via hos-svs@bristol.ac.uk.
