The role

This appointment at Bristol Veterinary School offers the opportunity for a successful researcher to be a key player in the delivery of clinical veterinary research within the School through the development of pipelines for veterinary clinical bioinformatics and predictive analytics. This may include the co-development of clinical trials or cohort studies with clinicians and colleagues elsewhere in the University. The School has long-established and internationally renowned clinical research activity covering dogs, cats, horses, farms, and exotic species. We are now seeking to develop a step-change in the growth of our clinical research in terms of volume and quality.

The post is based at Bristol Veterinary School on the University of Bristol's Langford campus, within the Faculty of Health Sciences.

What will you be doing?

The successful applicant will work with clinical and non-clinical staff in both Bristol Veterinary School and Langford Vets to capitalise on our research pipeline, which encompasses pre-clinical science to clinical translation and real-world impact. The applicant will also work closely with researchers across the Faculty of Health Sciences as well as benefiting from the numerous opportunities to develop interdisciplinary collaborations across the wider University and beyond.

You should apply if

The applicant is expected to have research expertise in clinical bioinformatics and data health science, either in the veterinary domain or in human medicine. A fundamental prerequisite for the post will be a credible and ambitious plan to develop and implement bioinformatic pipelines for the development of precision veterinary medicine over the next 5-10 years. For clinical veterinarians, the applicant's specialty and research programme could provide the exemplar application for this pipeline. A support and mentorship structure will be tailored for the successful candidate.

The appointee will be expected to develop and consolidate a research group in this area, forging collaborations internally and externally, and will teach on the School's undergraduate and taught postgraduate courses as well as supervise postgraduate research students.

The final selection process is planned to take place on 8th September 2021 (please hold this date free in your diary if applying).

The closing date for applications is 11.59pm on Sunday 1st August 2021.

For an informal discussion about the post, please contact Professor Tim Parkin, Head of School, Bristol Veterinary School via hos-svs@bristol.ac.uk.

We welcome applications from all members of our community and are particularly encouraging those from diverse groups, such as members of the LGBT+ and BAME communities, to join us.
