Requirements

Experience in teaching and supervision in Discourse Analytic approaches in Linguistics required. Candidates applying at the Lecturer level should have experience in teaching and the ability to supervise in Discourse Analytic approaches in Linguistics.

Candidates must be able to offer a unique contribution that strengthens our teaching programme. It would be especially advantageous if candidates were able to demonstrate: discourse analysis of indigenous African languages and/or languages which may contribute toward the transformation of the curriculum; computational/computer-driven approaches to Discourse Analysis.

Senior Lecturer:

A PhD in Linguistics. Teaching experience at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels required.

Must be able to teach a range of linguistics modules at the undergraduate level. Research supervision of at least Master's degrees to completion required.

Lecturer:

A PhD in Linguistics. Candidates who are close to completing a PhD may be considered, provided convincing evidence is submitted. Tutoring and/or teaching experience required. Must be willing to develop a teaching interest in a range of linguistics modules at the undergraduate level.

Please note that this appointment will be made in line with the requirements of the Employment Equity Act of RSA and the University's recruitment and selection policies and equity strategies. The initial focus will be on equity candidates.

In terms of Immigration Legislation (Act No. 13 of 2002 & Regulations), international staff members (non-SA citizens) have to comply with the provisions of the Act. This, therefore, means that the period of employment of non-SA citizens will be guided by the validity period of the work permit. In line with legislation governing the employment of foreign nationals, employment contracts will be offered on the basis that a development plan would be implemented for the transfer of skills to a South African resident. The onus is on candidates to ensure that they have a valid work permit before the commencement of employment at the University, failing which the employment with Rhodes University will be terminated.

Remuneration

Senior Lecturer Level:

Basic salary with Provident fund: R549 913 per annum

Approximate cost to company: R782 562 per annum

Lecturer Level:

Basic salary with Provident fund: R455 373 per annum

Approximate cost to company: R641 258 per annum
