Freelance Lecturer of Algorithms and Data Structures

ABOUT THE ROLE
As a freelance lecturer in the software engineering department, your main responsibility is to teach students Algorithms and Data Structures, for example by holding a series of workshops and/or lectures.

The primary scope of this role is to support students in their learning experience. The role can however also be extended into examining students at the end of the semester, if both parties so desire.

General information
This position is available starting summer 2021 with a flexible starting time. The Autumn semester runs from September-December 2021, and the project consulting is intended to take place during that period. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, CODE University of Applied Sciences has committed to offering all teaching in Autumn 2021 as remote formats. If you are in Berlin it will be possible to meet colleagues and students in person as the pandemic permits.

About You

• You have good foundations in algorithms and data structures, ideally have a degree in computer sciences.
• You have general knowledge and practical experience with software engineering.
• You have experience as a workshop leader or teacher.
• You are comfortable communicating and teaching in English.
• You are ready to collaborate, communicate and teach online.
• You thrive in an international environment.

Commitment & Expectations

• This role is considered to be for a minimum of 1 semester, Autumn 2021. Projects run from September to December. After the first semester there may be a possibility to extend for a longer period into future semesters.
• You can freely decide on the number of consulting hours you want to offer. Depending on the number of teams you want to consult (normally one hour every second week per team).
• The timing of your consulting is highly flexible. There are some specific constraints (e.g. university-wide events or other related classes), but you are generally free to choose your timing. Classes generally take place Monday-Thursdays between 9:00 and 18:00.
• A precise hourly rate can be negotiated depending on the terms of the engagement. This depends on the intended formats - it is a different amount of work and commitment for you to run a once-off workshop that you have already prepared, compared to spending several hours every week all semester long working on a class and with students. CODE is committed to paying a fair wage. Freelance rates are intended to be within the range of what you would earn as an engineer in the field, however what an educational institution can pay may not be at the same level as a well-funded startup.
