Ph.D. in Education from an accredited institution in Reading or a strongly related field with at least 18 hours of graduate work in reading. Current Texas teaching certification. Demonstrate effective written and verbal communication skills. Minimum 3 years teaching experience in K-12 public education; experience working with at-risk and non-traditional students. Demonstrate ability to follow and collaborate with faculty to provide essential instructions in courses for Texas certification preparation.
Must be available to teach face-to-face at any of the three campuses.
Preferred
Prior University teaching experience.
Blackboard experience.
Primary Responsibilities
Provide instruction within the department. Evaluate and grade students' class work, assignments and papers. Prepare and deliver instructional materials (i.e. syllabi, homework assignments, and handouts) in person and/or on-line. Initiate, facilitate, and moderate classroom discussions. Compile, administer, and grade examinations. Participate in required reporting processes (i.e. grades, participation, etc.). Assist students in connecting to college resources. Develop and revise curriculum and course work to promote best teaching practices, Critical thinking and communication skills learned in this class form a vital foundation for students' success as future teachers.
Responsible for personal safety and the safety of others; must exercise due caution and practice safe work habits at all times.
This position is security sensitive.

Texas Law requires a 60 day waiting period before new state employees are eligible to enroll in health insurance.

Sul Ross State University Rio Grande College is a non-residential, upper level institution offering junior, senior and graduate courses in the liberal arts non-traditional with an enrollment of approximately 1,000 students each semester. Rio Grande College offers classes at Eagle Pass, Del Rio, and Uvalde in the southwest Texas border region.
