(HEO7) $89,399 to $99,987 or (HEO8) $100,261 to $112,481 per annum plus an employer contribution of 17% superannuation may apply. Appointment classification will depend on qualifications and experience.

Fixed term, full-time opportunity available for three (3) years.

The Life Course and Intergenerational Health research group is seeking an experienced statistician to contribute to a portfolio of research, including projects aiming to understand and prevent congenital defects.

In this role, you will apply statistical methods in novel and creative ways to interrogate linked intergenerational datasets. Research questions include the role of common medications in specific defects.

To be successful at HEO7 you will need:

  • Knowledge of contemporary statistical methods used in health and medical research.
  • Experience in managing large datasets.
  • Demonstrated experience in programming with statistical packages, such as SAS, R or Stata, with detailed annotation.
  • Skills in data analysis using a range of multivariable statistical methods.
  • Demonstrated experience in producing written reports of statistical methods, analysis and interpretation.


In addition to the above, to be successful at HEO8 you will need:
  • Strong skills in data analysis using a range of multivariable statistical methods, with extensive experience in the use of generalized linear mixed models, managing large datasets and interpreting complex statistical results.
  • Ability to provide well-reasoned advice on appropriate approaches to advanced statistical analysis in novel contexts.
  • Substantial initiative and ingenuity and the ability to work independently while being able to contribute successfully to a multi-disciplinary work environment.
  • Very high level of interpersonal, communication and organisational skills.
