The Department of Military and Veterans Affairs, Division of Alaska Military Youth Academy (AMYA), is recruiting for an AMYA Instructor located in Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson (JBER)! The position is in the General Government Unit (GGU) at a range 16. What you will be doing: Under general supervision, the Alaska Military Youth Academy (AMYA) Instructor provides academic instruction in a formal classroom setting. Including creating lesson plans for specific audiences and planning programs to meet the needs of the students in a Cognia accredited school. Our organization, mission, and culture: The mission of the National Guard Alaska Military Youth Academy ChallenNGe Program is to help intervene in and reclaim the lives of Alaska's at-risk youth and produce graduates with the values, skills, education, and self-discipline necessary to succeed as adults. The incumbent will be directly working and influencing the cadets by being a role model in the capacity of Instructor in the Academic Department. Who we are looking for: To be successful in the position a candidate will need the following core competencies: Considerable knowledge of science, technology, engineering and mathematical concepts and topics, and/or language arts (reading and writing), social studies, and mathematics. Considerable working knowledge of principles, practices, education trends, and teaching methods and techniques. Working knowledge of State and Federal laws and regulations related to education and developments in the assigned educational specialty as well as the general field of education. Ability to effectively provide instruction to at-risk adolescents with differing academic skills in a classroom setting; to maintain composure during stressful situations; and to recognize and respond positively to cultural differences, lifestyles, and values. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of work; to learn operating policies and procedures; and to convey information, orally or in writing, to students and cadets. Ability to learn and utilize computers and Windows-based programs for delivering courses of instruction, collecting and reporting data, and assessing academic performance and modifying courses. Minimum Qualifications A bachelor's degree from an accredited college; AND Two years of experience working with children and/or young adults grades K through 12 in an academic environment as an instructor, instructional aide, counselor, or similar capacity.
