Overview:
the Research Assistant I will be responsible for providing research support to the Principal Investigator (PI) and the Director of the Clinical Trials Unit. The position will perform a variety of duties in support of the research goals, objectives and protocols while functioning within the Neurology and Developmental Medicine (NDM) department. A considerable degree of responsibility, flexibility, and independence is required to carry out the diverse duties that are assigned. This staff member must have the ability to grasp the rationale for the methods used and must pay careful attention to details of the protocols are important for success. Reliability and the ability to work well with multiple investigators are essential. The incumbent is will read and understand the scientific literature, carry out study assessments, assist with planning studies, assist with analyzing data and preparing presentations for others.

Responsibilities:
Assist in clinical research studies of Batten Diseases.Collaborate in the development of research protocols.Organize research involving collecting measures according to research protocols from research participants, parents/caregivers, and other sources at designated intervals.Assist with the coordination and communications of research projects in accordance with the funding agencys award statement, including the recruitment of participants, implementation of all aspects of study protocols, and communications with collaborating investigator teams.Assist with telephone screenings and schedule research subjects for evaluations.Maintain a schedule for research appointments.Assist with subject recruitment activities (i.e., mailings, posting fliers, managing social media, drafting newsletters, contacting outside foundations and agencies, etc.)Score research assessments, check scoring, and enter data into databases.Obtain and track medical records for research subjects.Assist with writing up procedure sheets for research protocols along with developing case report forms, and other research related forms.Assist with the acquisition and maintenance of all data collected for research studies.Assist with developing databases and tracking data.Assist with training new staff, students, and volunteers on all aspects of the research protocols.Assist with literature reviews, and writing up the results of ongoing studies, including submissions to conferences, peer-reviewed publications, and grants.Assist with the preparation of presentations to internal and external outside agencies for educational and recruitment purposes.

Qualifications:
EDUCATION:Bachelors degree is required.EXPERIENCE:One (1) year of experience with biomedical or social research experience preferred.Familiarity with child development and knowledge of human genetics is preferred.
