The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center is conducting a national search for an outstanding accomplished professional to provide broad direction and coordination of all activities within the disciplines comprising the Division of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. The Division Head provides administrative leadership and assumes full responsibility for all areas of management in the division to include clinical activity at the Texas Medical Center and Houston Area Locations, research management, finance and budget, long-range planning, resource allocation, space administration, clinical and research staff and faculty development, and education of fellows, residents and students. In conjunction with the office of the Chief Operating Officer, the Division Head also ensures laboratory accreditation and compliance. The division consist of three predominantly clinical departments and one basic science/translational research department: * Hematopathology: facilitates the care of patients with hematologic malignancies. * Laboratory Medicine: performs clinical diagnostic routine and esoteric testing. The testing results are used for clinical management of MDA patients. Within its Transfusion Medicine Section, also manages blood component collection, stewardship of blood component resources, and transfusion reaction monitoring, management, and reporting. * Pathology: serves patients by providing pathological diagnosis, prognostic profiling, therapeutic monitoring, and preventive information in an interactive manner with all institutional clinical units. * Translational Molecular Pathology: pursues innovative research aimed at comprehensive molecular characterization of cancers with the help of patients enrolled in translational studies and clinical trials, and integrate this knowledge with basic and preclinical research approaches, to develop novel biomarkers for diagnosis, early detection, prognosis and prediction of response to therapy in cancer. The selected individual will be responsible for developing a strategic plan to continue the growth of clinical services as the division continues to expand both in scope and reach, and the alignment of those services with the institutional strategy plan. Our goal is to excel in world-class quality and safety standards currently in place at MD Anderson. In addition to clinical service, the selected applicant will be expected to continue to grow the research and education efforts by the division. Qualifications: * M.D. or M.D./Ph.D. or equivalent degree * Minimum 10 years of academic experience in pathology and/or laboratory testing * Prior administrative experience at a departmental or institutional level * National recognition and proven track record in clinical and/or laboratory research * Demonstration of leadership qualities essential to effective problem solving, conflict resolution and negotiation * American board certified in Pathology (or equivalent training, if American board certification is not feasible) * Eligible for Texas medical licensure At MD Anderson, our mission is to eliminate cancer in Texas, the nation and the world through outstanding programs that integrate patient care, research and prevention, and through education for undergraduate and graduate students, trainees, professionals, employees and the public.
